Several cars were damaged during the pursuit; the driver is in police custody.
The driver of a stolen 2024 Lamborghini Urus SUV led San Diego police officers on a chase that ended with an intense crash in Bird Rock the evening of July 23.
Officers initiated a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle in the La Jolla Hermosa neighborhood, according to a SDPD spokesperson, during which the driver fled south into Bird Rock.
The Lamborghini was originally reported stolen from a house on Chelsea street, according to NBC San Diego.
The short pursuit, during which a police officer crashed into a fountain in front of the CVS on La Jolla Boulevard, ended when the Lamborghini collided with several parked vehicles on La Jolla Hermosa Avenue, according to police, disabling the car.
Commenters on social media heard the loud crash; a small crowd gathered at the crash site, where lajolla.ca observed debris strewn about the road and adjacent yards and the driver being treated for minor injuries sustained during the collision.
The driver was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment, SDPD said; upon discharge from the hospital, the driver was booked into San Diego County jail.
