The La Jolla university claims the sixth spot for the third year in a row, also holding at 29th overall nationwide.
UC San Diego in La Jolla is once again the sixth best public university, according to US News & World Report’s 2026 rankings.
UCSD is also holding steady at No 29 of more than 400 universities nationwide for the second consecutive year.
It’s the third year for the No-6 ranking for UCSD.
The decades-long US News & World Report rankings are based on evaluations of up to 17 factors of academic quality and graduate success. To be included in the “Best Colleges” directory, institutions must grant bachelor’s degrees; hold regional accreditation; offer traditional, campus-based education; accept new applicants for first-year, full-time students and offer a broad curriculum, among other criteria.
