UC San Diego holds No. 6 public university in 2025 ranking

U.S. News & World Report ranks UCSD 29th overall.

The 2025 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings are out today, and UC San Diego has been named the sixth best public university in the country for the second consecutive year.

Overall, UCSD ranked No. 29 on the complete list of over 400 of the nation’s colleges, dropping one spot from last year.

The 40th annual U.S. News & World Report rankings evaluate nearly 1,500 national colleges and universities on up to 17 measures of academic quality, placing an emphasis on social mobility and outcomes for graduating college students entering the workforce with “manageable debt and worthwhile starting salaries,” according to the methodology.
