The rainstorm March 6 flooded the intersection, closing it overnight and for several hours into March 7.
A torrential downpour that moved through La Jolla and San Diego during the late evening hours of March 6 caused the intersection of La Jolla Village Drive and Villa La Jolla to be closed due to flooding.
By midday March 7, the waters had receded enough and the intersection was reopened.
“Rain intensities observed were beyond the capacity for bypass pumping leading to flooding of the intersection,” city of San Diego spokesperson Jose Ysea said.

San Diego lifeguards performed rescues during the flood of four people trapped in their vehicles, according to CBS8.
Scheduled weekend work on the on- and offramps from La Jolla Village Drive to I-5 will continue, a spokesperson from Caltrans confirmed.
