The drone show organizers are seeking donations to help fund the third annual event, expanded for 2025 with twice the number of drones.

More drones? The La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club says yes, doubling the number of drones for its third annual Fourth of July drone show in collaboration with the LJ STEAM Foundation.

The club and foundation are seeking public donations to fund the show, which is gaining popularity as a part of La Jolla’s Independence Day tradition. Contributions will go toward the LJ STEAM Foundation’s efforts to advance science, technology, engineering, arts and music in La Jolla.

The drones, visible from La Jolla Shores Beach and other viewpoints in La Jolla, doubled in number in 2024 from 100 to 200.

“Last year’s show was an incredible success, thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and community supporters,” William “Bill” J Kellogg, President of the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, said in a press release.

“This year, we’re taking it to the next level by doubling the number of drones for an even more spectacular display. We hope to build on that same spirit of support to keep this tradition alive and free for everyone to enjoy.”

The expanded drone display – with 400 to 500 drones – will take place at 9 pm on Friday, July 4. The performance will be choreographed to patriotic music and aims to capture the spectacle of a fireworks show without the environmental impact.

An exclusive viewing area is available at the Acapulco Room and Deck upstairs at La Jolla Shores Hotel for a private party experience.

Businesses and individuals can make tax-deductible contributions online at ljsteam.org or by mailing checks to the LJ STEAM Foundation at 7742 Herschel Avenue, Suite L, La Jolla, CA 92037. Donations should be designated for the “4th of July Drone Show fund.”
