Turf wars: High school football games return

Aerial view of La Jolla High School's football field and surrounding campus, with a red track encircling the field marked 'LA JOLLA VIKINGS.' In the background, the residential neighborhood and a scenic coastline leading to the ocean are visible under a clear blue sky

‘Tis the season to cheer on your favorite varsity teams in La Jolla.

Friday (and Thursday and Saturday) night lights in La Jolla are back as the three local football teams (La Jolla High, The Bishop’s and La Jolla Country Day schools) prepare to tackle the season ahead of them.

The season kicks off (all pun intended) for all three teams with two home games, both starting at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23.

The LJHS Vikings take on The Bishop’s School Knights at Gene Edwards Stadium (on the La Jolla High School campus) for the annual “Battle for Pearl St.” game (Pearl Street is the unofficial divider between the two Village high schools).

The La Jolla Country Day School Torreys will host Chula Vista High School at their Genesee Avenue campus.

Below, the rest of the home game schedules for each of our local teams. All games are at 7 p.m.
