La Jolla Historical Society to hold Open House with ‘special announcement’

The Aug 15 event will celebrate La Jolla’s history, culture and more with activities, live music and a look at the organization’s past and future.

The La Jolla Historical Society will host an Open House from 11 am to 1 pm Saturday, Aug 15 to celebrate La Jolla’s history, culture and more, with “a very special announcement,” Executive Director Lauren Lockhart said.

The free event will showcase the Historical Society’s current exhibit, “Stories in Cloth,” and display objects from the organization’s collection not usually seen while participants enjoy live music from surf rock band Par Avion, participate in hands-on art making activities led by artist Michelle Montjoy and purchase food from a local taco truck.

“There’s something for everyone,” Lockhart said, “and we just want to invite the community to enjoy our beautiful historic campus and celebrate this exciting announcement that’s yet to be revealed.”

Lockhart would not say more about the announcement except to tease it’s “something exciting” for the future of the organization.

Founded in 1964, the La Jolla Historical Society honors the history and culture of its coastline region through interdisciplinary exhibitions, educational programs, research and community engagement.

The Aug 15 Open House will serve to celebrate the many members, volunteers, donors, artists, educators and community partners who have contributed to the Historical Society’s growth and helped shape its next chapter, Lockhart said.
