The severe collision is expected to cause traffic delays through the afternoon Sept 14 as San Diego fire-rescue crews work to clear the involved vehicles.
One person is dead and two others are injured after a severe car crash Sept 14 on Torrey Pines Road just east of the intersection at Prospect Place.
Just before 2:30 pm, a man, 56, drove his Land Rover northbound near 1500 Torrey Pines Rd, attempting a U-turn midblock as a woman, 68, drove her Mitsubishi Mirage northbound on the same road.
The man turned into the path of the woman’s car, which impacted the front right side of the man’s Land Rover, according to San Diego police.
San Diego Fire-Rescue crews worked to extricate the people involved, SDFD spokesperson Candace Hadley said; the woman’s passenger, a man whose age is not known, died at the scene.
The woman sustained two broken arms, two femur fractures, a fractured pelvis and facial fractures.
The man complained of pain; both drivers were transported to a local hospital.
As of 3 pm Sept 14, Torrey Pines Road from Prospect east through Princess Street was closed, causing traffic delays for a few hours as SDFD crews remained on scene to investigate and clear the wreckage.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
