La Jolla sunsets are the best in San Diego at any time of the year and a romantic activity to share with your sweetie this Valentine’s Day. The sun setting over La Jolla’s unique coastline will give you all the feels. Enjoying the sunset right from your table on Valentine’s Day is always a great option, but if you have time either before or after your reservation to catch the sunset, here are a few of our favorite sunset hot spots:
You’re in the right place if you’re anywhere along Coast Blvd. during the sunset. Starting from La Jolla Cove Beach, you can walk South along Coast Blvd to various viewpoints where you can stop to take in the view. There are also benches sprinkled along Coast Blvd to use:
The Coast Walk Trail starts at The Cave Store, East of La Jolla Cove Beach. It’s a 0.6-mile easy trail with several great spots to stop and watch the sunset. Metered parking is available along Coast Blvd. or free neighborhood parking.
Watch the sunset from atop the towering bluffs. Enjoy unobstructed views up and down the coast and maybe even some paragliders flying overhead. Parking is plenty and free!
Getting to the reserve is an uphill trek, and once at the top, there are several trails with lookout points that are perfect for watching the sunset. The gates close at sunset, so parking at the North Beach parking lot and walking up is your best bet.
This popular spot towers above it all. Take the curvy drive up to Mt. Soledad for incredible 360° views. Once there, you’ll likely be joining others with the same idea. The parking is minimal, so keep that in mind.
This Valentine’s Day, February 14, the sun sets in La Jolla at 5:34 pm.
