Reign check: ‘King’ tides’ last 2024 appearance Dec 12-17

Wake early to catch the drama of high tide and stroll the low-lying tidepools in the afternoons.

“King” tides are coming to town, making their extreme differences between daily high and low tides known Dec 12-17.

Catch the first of the dramatic high tides at 6:04 am Thursday, Dec 12 at 6.3 feet, with low tide at 1:17 pm at -0.7 feet.

The majesty will build, reaching a crescendo Saturday and Sunday, Dec 13 and 14, with high tides of 6.8 feet both days at 7:25 and 8:07 am, respectively, and low tides of -1.6 feet both days at 2:29 and 3:33 pm, respectively.

Check the chart for more information about high and low tides through Dec 17.

With high swells, waves will appear very large, crashing against the La Jolla bluffs and drawing many in awe. At low tide, more of the sea floor and tidepools will be visible.
