The larger- and lower-than-usual tides will also appear once more in 2024 next month.
“King” tides will return Nov 14 through 17, which means La Jolla will see unusual differences between the daily high and low tides.
The highest tide for Nov 14 will be at 7:08 am at 6.6 feet, with the lowest tide at 2:02 pm at -0.9 feet.
The next three days will be the most dramatic, with a 7:44 am high tide at 6.9 feet and a 2:49 pm low tide at -1.3 feet Nov 15; a 8:21 am high tide at 6.9 feet and a 3:37 pm low tide at -1.4 feet Nov 16; and a 9:01 am high tide at 6.8 feet and a 4:27 pm low tide at -1.3 feet Nov 17.
When the tide is high, if swells are also higher, waves may appear more theatrical, while at low tide, more of the sea floor and tidepools will be visible.
The king tides will return in December for a final 2024 showing.
