High surf advisory issued for La Jolla through Sunday, Feb 8

Large breaking waves of five to eight feet, with sets to 10 feet, are predicted at west-facing beaches with a risk of dangerous surf and swim conditions.

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for San Diego beaches including La Jolla, in effect from 10 am Friday, Feb 6 through 6 am Sunday, Feb 8.

Large breaking waves of five to eight feet, with sets to 10 feet, are predicted at west-facing beaches, bringing dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion.

Surfline forecasts Black’s Beach may see double overhead swells up to 12 feet.

There will be a high rip current risk with minor tidal overflow into parking lots possible. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water.

If caught in a rip current (powerful channels of water sweeping quickly away from shore), yell for help and stay afloat until assisted. If you have to swim out of a rip current, swim parallel to shore.

Always swim near lifeguards and heed their advice before getting in the water under any conditions.
