Scripps Park Pavilion wins public architecture award

The building is the only site of four nominations in 92037 to win.

The Scripps Park Pavilion/La Jolla Comfort Station has won a San Diego Architectural Foundation Orchid Award for public architecture.

The award, announced at the SDAF Oct. 3 ceremony, was the only 92037 spot of four nominations to win an award.

The annual Orchids & Onions are awarded to buildings (not designers, developers or people) that enhance (orchid) or degrade (onion) public life.

The Scripps Park Pavilion at 1160 Coast Blvd. is designed by architects Mosher Drew and Safdie Rabines and drew compliments that it fits well within the community, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The Ted and Jean Scripps Marine Conservation and Technology Facility, Queenstown Village and The Whaling Bar were also nominated this year.
