The installation funded by the San Diego Parks Foundation will be followed with comprehensive landscaping per the La Jolla Coastal Conservancy.
The ocean-facing edge of Ellen Browning Scripps Park in La Jolla is getting new sod, an interim step before a long-range plan to landscape more of the park begins.
The sod will be placed along the sidewalk starting at the La Jolla Cove Bridge Club building and running several yards southwest.
City of San Diego staff have prepped the site and will receive the sod by Monday or Tuesday, Oct 20 or 21, according to a city spokesperson, a few days’ delay due to the Oct 14 rain.
The project is funded by the San Diego Parks Foundation and is not related to previous plans to replace the worn-out sod in front of the Scripps Park Pavilion in the northeast corner of the park.
The newly-launched La Jolla Coastal Conservancy is working on a practical improvement plan for landscaping throughout Scripps Park, according to Coastal Conservancy board Chair Brenda Fake.
The landscaping project will address the areas overworked by pedestrian traffic and other goals, pending funding.
