A committee of representatives from local groups agreed on the collaborative list of projects, which will now be presented to each group in turn for approval.

The La Jolla Community Planning Association unanimously endorsed a list of projects to be submitted to the city of San Diego for next year’s budget consideration.

The list, collaborated on by representatives from four La Jolla civic associations (LJCPA, La Jolla Shores Association, Bird Rock Community Council and La Jolla Parks & Beaches), prioritizes seven projects in the community that the committee believes require the most attention for the 2026-27 fiscal year.

The top projects needing immediate attention are:

• Rebuild the La Jolla Shores boardwalk (Walter Munk Way).
• Repave the entirety of Neptune Place in Windansea and repair and upgrade infrastructure and flood control.
• Install three new roundabouts on La Jolla Shores Drive.
• Address the compromised, crumbling foundation of the belvedere at Boomer Beach.
• Replace the broken steps to South Casa Beach.
• Install adaptive traffic light systems throughout La Jolla.
• Improve pedestrian safety by adding crosswalks for the sidewalk on the west side of La Jolla Shores Drive; upgrading pedestrian signals all over; installing a crosswalk at El Paseo Grande and Camino del Oro; installing stop signs at all intersections from La Jolla Shores Drive west to the ocean; installing pedestrian-activated signal at La Jolla Shores Drive and Vallecitos; and adding or upgrading pedestrian signals on La Jolla Boulevard between Palomar Avenue and Colima Street.

The list has been a joint project of the groups for a number of years, as a compilation ratified by all groups will be “stronger,” La Jolla advocate Janie Emerson, who moderated the list’s creation, said at the Aug 7 LJCPA meeting.

“It’s really important,” she said, to submit the list, whether or not the city is able to fund the items.

The other three groups will now hear the list for ratification at their upcoming meetings; Emerson hopes to submit the fully-approved list by the end of August to the office of City Council President Joe LaCava, whose District 1 includes La Jolla.
