Bird Rock roads to receive slurry seal

Several roads in Bird Rock are scheduled to receive a coat of slurry seal, meant to preserve the life and condition of the road, within the next few weeks.

The city of San Diego’s streets.sandiego.gov site shows several streets from Calumet Avenue east to Bellevue Avenue and from Forward south to Colima Street (though not all roads in that plot will be affected) that are included in the slurry seal project.

Residents on streets including Forward Street received flyers notifying them of the work, which will be performed between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

“No Parking” signs will be set out 72 hours ahead of the work, which will also include weed abatement, tree trimming, asphalt repairs, crack seal, striping removal and street sweeping.

“Traffic is typically minimally affected during slurry seal application,” city spokesperson Anthony Santacroce said. “Crews will design detours where appropriate and once slurry seal is applied on a roadway, it is closed to traffic for a few hours to let the slurry dry.”

The roadwork is part of the city’s planned road resurfacing program and is conducted year-round, Santacroce said. The work is funded by State Gas Tax revenue (SB1).
