$35 million La Jolla Shores sale: Team ties its own record

The 4.45-acre site will become six separate units.

Closing Aug. 23, the sale of 8303 La Jolla Shores Drive has tied the record for the most expensive home sale in La Jolla’s history at $35 million, just four months after the Foxhill estate broke the record for the same price.

The Dickinson Clark team, led by Ross Clark and Brett Dickinson, tied its own record with this sale.

“We keep breaking our record again,” Clark said.

The existing structure will be demolished, Clark and Dickinson told lajolla.ca, in order to subdivide the 4.45-acre lot into six parcels, each with its own unit.

Several years ago, a similar plan to develop the site into eight units went through city of San Diego approval processes but was never realized.

The Dickinson Clark team put together a group of buyers who purchased the plot this month from the current owner, Clark said, who looked at the plans and thought “the density was too high.”

“We didn’t want to impact the community that much,” Clark said.

Will & Fotsch Architects of La Jolla worked to design the new development, to be called Cielo Mar.

The team worked with local architecture firm Will & Fotsch to create “something that would feel a lot more grand and not so high-density,” Clark added.

The new owners of the site will each reside in the units once constructed, half of them moving from out of the country to La Jolla, seeking the community of schools, stable economy and mild climate the area is known for.

“La Jolla has the most to offer as far as an actual lifestyle is concerned,” Clark said. “La Jolla has been discovered.”
