Zachariah Brown was named as a person of interest and may have been armed.

UC San Diego Police and San Diego Police gave the all clear at 1:15 pm Jan 17 after searching for a possible armed suspect, Zachariah Brown.

At 11 am, the university issued an emergency notification urging people on campus to avoid North Campus, lock their doors and stay inside. 

At 11:40 am, the emergency status was updated as police continued to search the arena, cautioning people to continue to avoid the RIMAC/Liontree Arena area and northern section of campus, stay inside and lock doors.

The university released Zachariah Brown’s picture and name at 12:30 pm as a possible suspect. 

“This is not currently an active shooter situation,” UCSD noted, adding San Diego CrimeStoppers received an anonymous call earlier on Jan 17 reporting that a female was being held against her will. A San Diego Police ping of the female’s mobile phone located the phone in the vicinity of LionTree Arena.

UC San Diego Police responded to the scene with regional law enforcement to begin a search of the area for the suspect.

There is no ongoing threat to the campus at this time.
