Shoreline closure lifted for Spindrift Drive and Princess Street

A sewage spill prompted the closure June 16. Sewage impacts are not yet known; the area is now open as of June 17.

The San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality has lifted a water contact closure June 17 for the shoreline near the intersection of Spindrift Drive and Princess Street in La Jolla due to a sewage release.

The closure was enacted June 16 and extends 100 feet north and south from the point of the release.

Approximately 175 gallons of sewage have entered the ocean; Beach goers are advised that the ocean water is contaminated and may cause illness.

The water contact closure will remain in place until sampling and field observations confirm these areas are safe for water contact.
