The boat was seen coming ashore before sunrise Dec 15.
A panga boat carrying about ten people came ashore just north of the Scripps Pier in La Jolla around 4:29 am Dec 15.
In a video from the Scripps Surfline surf cam, recorded with a mobile phone and shared with lajolla.ca, the boat approaches the shoreline from the southwest and makes landfall, with half of the boat ashore just out of frame of the stationary camera.
Ryan Schnell, who recorded the video, was up early checking the surf cam as he often does for his photography needs.
After seeing the footage, he went down to the beach and “everyone was gone” from the boat, he said. The watercraft had drifted towards the pier with about 10 gas cans and 13 life vests in it.

Schell took photos of the boat but did not touch it.
Neither San Diego lifeguards nor US Customs and Border Patrol have a record of a boat reported that morning in La Jolla.
