The Aug 1 incident prompted a large San Diego police response including a law enforcement helicopter to assist with locating and detaining the man.

A man was arrested near the intersection of Eads Avenue and Pearl Street Aug 1 after fighting with police officers and allegedly threatening personal property damage while drunk.

Around 6:30 pm, San Diego police responded to a citizen’s call that a possibly intoxicated male was swinging a tennis racket at vehicles and throwing trash cans into the road, SDPD Lt John White said.

Prior to ground officers arriving on scene, the SDPD Airborne Law Enforcement helicopter arrived to direct officers towards the male, White said.

Several officers then attempted to detain the male, 41, though the suspect fought with the officers.

Police were able to take the man into custody with the assistance of a Taser; the man was taken to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation and was subsequently booked into jail for resisting a police officer and being drunk in public.
