A suspect in a Windansea stabbing is dead after leading police on a chase that ended when he drove his car into the water off Navy Pier downtown.
According to 10 News, San Diego police officers responded to a call of a stabbing at about 12:30 a.m. at The Shoal La Jolla Beach motel on La Jolla Boulevard.
A man, likely a Shoal employee, entered a room and stabbed one of the two women inside, according to the report. The woman is expected to survive.
The man then fled, leading to a search that prompted Nextdoor posts curious about the large police presence, helicopter and search lights.Â
Police located the man’s white Honda Accord, chasing it south to the Embarcadero, where the driver sped off Navy Pier into the water.
San Diego rescue workers pulled the car and driver from the water, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.Â
The investigation is ongoing; SDPD did not immediately respond to a request for updated information.
