The rescue, performed just below La Jolla’s Coast Walk Trail, involved about nine kayakers who washed up on the rocks during a tour.
A Memorial Day kayaking tour turned into a rescue effort for a group of nine kayakers who found themselves washed up on the rocks around 6:15 pm May 25.
The incident occurred on the bluffs below 1555 Coast Walk off the Coast Walk Trail, when San Diego lifeguards extricated eight of the nine kayakers via rescue water craft, according to San Diego fire Captain Jason Shanley.
The eight kayakers were not injured.
The ninth kayaker needed rescue via a “Rescue 44,” a specialized mobile unit used to extricate victims of falls up to 56 feet, Shanley said.
That patient was transported to a local hospital with injuries; the extent of the injuries is unknown.
