The vendor has received multiple citations previously.
A minor collision occurred around 3:30 p.m. Aug. 15, during which a mobile ice cream truck vendor brushed against a San Diego Park Ranger at 800 Coast Blvd. above Wipeout Beach.
The Ranger stopped to flag down and make contact with the vendor moving in the opposite direction, according to city of San Diego spokesperson Benny Cartwright.
The vendor, rather than stopping, slowly brushed up against the Ranger truck, transferring paint. There were no injuries.
As the Ranger attempted to issue a citation for mobile food truck vending, which is prohibited in the beach impact zone, the ice cream truck driver requested an ambulance.
Further information on the driver’s condition and whether a citation was issued was not immediately available.
The city has received “numerous citizen complaints and Get It Done requests regarding this specific vendor,” Cartwright said, “and they have received several citations for vending. They are not allowed to stop and set up a pop-up shop at the park, which is what this vendor does.”
The Ranger did not make a traffic stop or attempt to block the vendor, Cartwright said.
