A car failed to stop at a red light, hitting the moped driver and fleeing the scene at La Jolla Boulevard and Nautilus Street.
A man, 71, was left with life-threatening injuries after a car hit his moped and fled the scene around 4:50 pm June 14.
The man, riding a 2025 Vespa moped southbound on La Jolla Boulevard, entered the intersection of Nautilus Street on a green signal, according to San Diego police.
A black 2008–2013 Nissan Rogue, driver unknown, was driving eastbound on Nautilus Street and failed to stop for the red light at La Jolla Boulevard, colliding with the moped driver before driving off.
The male was transported to the hospital with injuries including a fractured pelvis with internal bleeding, collapsed lung, brain bleed and multiple rib fractures.
An investigation is underway.
