The fire began in a transient encampment; a witness saw the fire start and alerted police, who arrested a man on unrelated warrants.

A small blaze that began in the brush on northbound Interstate 5 just south of the Genesee Avenue exit is out now as a man is in custody.

The fire began in a transient encampment about 2 pm Tuesday; a witness saw the fire start and alerted police, according to San Diego police Lt. Bryan Brecht.

The man living in the encampment was arrested for three outstanding warrants, Brecht said, though it is not known how the fire started.
