Emergency work continues in Scripps Park to correct erosion

The Ellen Browning Scripps Park Emergency project continues to make progress, according to city of San Diego spokesperson Tyler Becker.

The $2 million project to correct storm drain issues that have led to cliff erosion above Shell Beach began last fall, with crews working to re-route approximately 80 feet of sidewalk away from the coastal bluff and replace 95 feet of 24-inch storm drain.

As of Feb 26, the contractor has completed constructing the main storm drain structure and started backfilling the surrounding area, Becker said.

Next, crews will move to construct an inlet connecting to the installed 24-inch storm drain and will then resurface the street, replace the sidewalk and install new fencing and landscaping.

A portion of Coast Boulevard from Ocean Street to a half-block east towards Girard Avenue is closed from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to enable the work.

The project is still expected to be completed this spring.
