The teenager fell off an electric bicycle the morning of March 5 and sustained head trauma and was transported to the hospital.

A teenager fell off an electric bicycle around 8 am in La Jolla March 5, necessitating transport to a local hospital. No vehicles were involved and the incident was first reported as a “medical emergency.”

The incident happened on Nautilus Street just east of Via Valverde, when the boy, 14, lost control and fell off the e-bike, hitting the ground and suffering “major injuries,” according to San Diego police Lt John White.

The teen seems to have slid several feet down the hill after falling, police Sgt Kevin Andreen with SDPD’s Traffic Division told lajolla.ca at the scene.

The teen was wearing a helmet at the time of the fall, Andreen added.

It was later determined the boy sustained an intracranial hemorrhage, subdural hematoma, orbital fracture and multiple abrasions. At this time, the injuries are not considered life threatening.

Nautilus between Via Valverde and Via Estrada was closed until noon for the investigation.
