The deceased was not a student at the university.
A person was found dead at UC San Diego’s Geisel Library Nov 6. It is believed the unidentified person fell to their death from the eighth-floor stairwell, according to campus news source The Triton.
UCSD Executive Vice Chancellor Elizabeth Simmons confirmed the death in a Nov 6 campus notice, adding “the individual was not enrolled as a student. Emergency responders, including police, are currently managing the situation. There is no threat to the campus community.”
No further information about the deceased has yet been released, according to university communications director Leslie Sepuka.
The death occurred about 11:35 am; Geisel was evacuated around 12:50 pm and remained closed the rest of the day.
Geisel Library reopened at 7:30 am Nov 7.
UCSD is providing mental health services to students, staff and faculty as needed.
