UC San Diego environmental report in public review

The public has until Monday, May 19 to review and comment on the report for the updated Long Range Development Plan.

A Subsequent Environmental Impact Report for the proposed update to UC San Diego’s 2018 Long Range Development Plan is now in public review through Monday, May 19.

There will also be a public hearing for the SEIR at 6 pm Tuesday, April 22, at the campus Survivance Building, 11th Floor Conference Center, Theatre District, SV-120. Click here for general parking info.

UCSD leadership previously stated the LRDP updates would reflect the university’s rapid growth and need for housing and other construction projects.

The LRDP seeks to add 8.4 million square feet, or about 193 acres, above what the current plan shows, mostly on the West Campus (the main part of the university) and the East Campus (where the medical center is).

To address that aim, the Ridge Walk North Living and Learning Neighborhood will open in fall 2025 with housing for 2,400 undergraduate students.

Additionally, the Pepper Canyon East District is in preliminary phases to redevelop about 20 acres that currently have 1,000 beds into a residential set of buildings for 6,000 students.

Pepper Canyon East is still in need of designs, review and approval; UCSD is aiming for a 2029 opening.

So far, the projects are not affected by proposed budget cuts.
