Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve to partially close for construction

Much of Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve will be off-limits to visitors for four months starting in November as the state begins a planned construction project.

The park road, upper parking lots and most trails within the main reserve will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians from November 2025 through February 2026, according to California State Parks San Diego.

The South Beach and North Beach parking lots, along with Torrey Pines State Beach, will remain open during construction.

This multi-phase construction project includes utility improvements, comfort station upgrades and accessibility enhancements such as new parking stalls and paved pedestrian paths.

Full access to the 2,000-acre reserve is expected to resume by March 1, 2026. A second phase of construction is scheduled to begin in August or September 2026.

The reserve, which protects roughly 300 endangered and protected species of native plants, including one of the rarest pine trees in the world, the Pinus torreyana, attracts millions of visitors annually.
