The La Jolla-based philanthropy group looks to its next Jewel Ball, “Back En Pointe.”
La Jolla-based philanthropy group Las Patronas raised $909,630 for its capital project beneficiaries in the last year, which concluded Aug. 3 with the 78th annual Jewel Ball “Meet Me in Marrakech.”
Las Patronas, established in 1946, has donated nearly $30 million to more than a thousand charitable organizations locally, in year-long grant cycles during which all members work to fund projects for their beneficiaries.
The last year has been “extraordinary,” 2024 Jewel Ball Chair Jill Peters said at the Las Patronas New Member Luncheon Oct. 9.
She said the $909,630 raised is the “result of a collective effort of the amazing women of Las Patronas, both active and advisory.”
The 2025 Jewel Ball, chaired by Katherine Kozo, will be themed “Back En Pointe: A Night at the Palais Garnier,” Kozo revealed, an event based on her love of “the elegance and beauty of ballet.”
The creativity, discipline and camaraderie required for ballet reminds Kozo “of Las Patronas and the wonderful work we do for our beneficiaries,” she said.
The 79th annual Jewel Ball will be held Saturday, Aug. 2 at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club.
Las Patronas also welcome 13 new members into the organization, who will serve a six-year membership: Michelle Brown, Megan Casey-Jones, Kristen Churchill, Celia Cravatt, Julia Figueiredo, Giulia Grindle, Amber Hunt, Rose Ham, Susan Hanson, Jennifer Landa, Meredith Pathria, Kate Spiro and Ingrid Westlake.
It is the “spirit of service and sisterhood that makes Las Patronas so special,” Peters said.
