Lanes of Via Capri in La Jolla closed for construction

The work on a water main replacement project will mean portions of Via Capri will be closed through spring 2026, with traffic control in place.

Traffic on Via Capri in La Jolla will be slower for the next several months as city of San Diego crews work to complete a water main replacement project.

The work is in the first phase currently, affecting Via Capri from Via Avola to Senn Way. The active work reduces traffic to one lane during work hours (generally morning through early evening), with traffic control in place assisting vehicles safely through the temporary one-lane road, according to city spokesperson Tyler Becker.

After construction activities are complete for the day, crews reopen the closed lane and restore regular traffic.

This phase is expected to be completed by the end of October.

A second phase, from Senn Way to La Jolla Parkway, will take place after completion of the first phase and be completed in the spring of 2026, Becker said.

The capital improvement project entails construction of approximately 7,920 linear feet of new PVC water mains to replace existing water mains, including all associated water services, fire hydrants, valves, water meters and other equipment.
