GoSurf: New local app aims to connect and support surfers

Wyatt Correll founded the social app to create a platform to bring the surfing community closer.

Launched just a few months ago, a new app is gaining popularity among local surfers, and its founder is stoked.

GoSurf is a social media platform for surfers, said founder Wyatt Correll, who grew up surfing the waves at La Jolla Shores and Scripps Pier.

GoSurf allows surfers to schedule sessions, connect with friends and easily communicate about meeting spots and other surfing-related activities.

The app, which is free with no premium features, is also beta testing Groups, in which surf teams, clubs and organizations can post and share events and news.

“Our mission is to further connect the surf community,” Correll said, wanting to facilitate better enjoyment of the sport for all.

“I’ve always been a part of the surf community,” he said. “I felt very connected, loved all the surfers.”

When the COVID pandemic began, Correll would reach out to a handful of friend groups often, coordinating surf sessions in different chat threads, a string of activities he called “hectic.”

That led to GoSurf’s development, to “streamline all communication [and] put everything in one app,” he said.

GoSurf now has 250 users, primarily in La Jolla and Pacific Beach; Correll and his team are working to expand the community.

“People love the app and the mission and the vision of it,” Correll said. “They’re constantly giving feedback because they see what the potential is. It’s been a great start with the community so far.”

Correll is looking to strengthen the surfing community in San Diego before widening the app to allow communities in other regions.
