The city of San Diego tree recycling program is offering 16 sites total.
If your Christmas tree is still taking space in your home, you have until Thursday, Jan 16 to recycle it through the city of San Diego’s annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program.
Of the 16 sites offered, the two closest to La Jolla are in Pacific Beach at Kate Sessions Memorial Park on the corner of Mount Soledad Road and Loring Street and in University City at Standley Community Park, 3585 Governor Drive.Â

Both green and flocked trees (fake snow) are accepted; all tree stands, bags, netting, lights, ornaments, tinsel and other tree decorations must be removed. No artificial trees will be accepted.
The program turns recycled Christmas trees into useful products such as high-quality compost, wood chips and mulch products for residents and business owners to purchase year-round.
City residents may load up to two cubic yards of compost and mulch for free at the Miramar Greenery.
