Great Place to Work and Fortune place Scripps Health at No 1 for Best Workplaces in Health Care 2026, the only local, large health system honored.
Great Place to Work and Fortune have ranked Scripps Health first in the US in the large employer category of its 2026 Fortune Best Workplaces in Health Care.
Scripps Health, founded in La Jolla in 1924 by philanthropist Ellen Browning Scripps, is the only local, large health system honored and jumped up seven spots from last year’s list.
“Our people earned this recognition through their unwavering commitment to patients and colleagues,” Scripps Health President and chief executive Chris Van Gorder said in a press release. “Scripps has an exceptional culture that’s rooted in trust, teamwork, communication and pride and it gives us a competitive advantage in attracting and retaining outstanding people.”
The large employer category comprises companies with 1,000 or more employees and includes hospitals and health systems, payers, staffing firms and other health care companies. Scripps treats more than 600,000 patients annually under the care of more than 3,500 affiliated physicians and nearly 18,000 employees among its five acute-care hospital campuses, more than 70 outpatient and specialty locations, and hundreds of affiliated physician offices throughout the region.
The Best Workplaces in Health Care list is compiled from an analysis of employees’ confidential quantitative and qualitative survey responses. Feedback is rated on metrics that determine job satisfaction and predict retention, agility and overall business success.
Ninety percent of Scripps employees reported the company is a great place to work, compared to 57% of employees at a typical US-based company.
