Crescent coming: Partial eclipse to be visible in La Jolla

graphic of trajectory of partial solar eclipse visible in La Jolla

While many will crowd into Texas and other states in the middle of the country for the total solar eclipse Monday, April 8, those of us on the west coast will still be able to view part of the action.

In La Jolla and the rest of San Diego, the eclipse – when the moon passes directly in front of the sun – will appear as a partial solar eclipse, beginning about 10:03 a.m. and ending about 12:30 p.m.

Maximum viewing time – the peak of the eclipse – is at 11:11 a.m.

And though we all have sunglasses here in sunny La Jolla, they won’t help you! Protect your vision and view the eclipse using eclipse glasses or a special solar filter! Looking directly at it can cause severe damage to your eyes.
