Nonna meets now: Dora Ristorante now serving in La Jolla

The second San Diego eatery from chef Accursio Lota and Corrine Goria opened Nov 20 in UCSD’s Theatre District with family-forward, coastal Italian.

Family isn’t just in the name of new La Jolla restaurant Dora Ristorante; it’s folded into every dish.

The much-anticipated second spot from chef Accursio Lota and Corinne Goria, the husband-and-wife team behind North Park’s acclaimed Cori Pastificio Trattoria, Dora, named for Lota’s nonna (“grandmother”), opened Nov 20 in UC San Diego’s Theatre District.

Dora combines Lota’s noteworthy talents, including his title as Barilla “World Pasta Champion” and his experience in Michelin-starred kitchens, with his Sicilian training, which began in his grandmother’s kitchen.

The Sicilian connection runs all the way to La Jolla, Lota said in a statement, a parallel situ of sea and serenity, inspiring Dora Ristorante’s coastal Italian menu.

Designed in collaboration with renowned firm Bells + Whistles and built by CLTVT with Moniker Building Co, Dora’s setting lays a rosy, golden setting within the 3,800-square-foot restaurant that ownership imagines as a perfect first act to a show at the proximal La Jolla Playhouse or a standalone evening of dinner and drinks.

Dora’s offerings include handmade daily pastas, fresh-caught seafood and Mediterranean produce, along with coastal cocktails, a fully-curated wine list, lunchtime pizzas and more.

Dora is open for dinner from 5 to 9 pm Tuesdays through Sundays and lunch from 11:30 to 3 pm Fridays through Sundays.

See what’s on the menus for lunch, dinner and your pre-theater night out.
