The La Jolla restaurant’s Level2 dining room and bar will remain open during the project, which will include a new glass wall, floor and more.
Iconic La Jolla restaurant George’s at the Cove will close its Ocean Terrace rooftop dining area and bar for remodeling beginning Monday, Nov 10.
The restaurant’s Level2 dining room and bar will remain open during the project, which is expected to be completed by mid-January 2026, according to a press release.
During the remodel period, George’s will add lunch and dinner service in its enclosed lower-level dining room on days when it is not reserved for private events.
The Ocean Terrace remodel will include all-new flooring, tabletops, glass wall, umbrella plan and permanent heaters.
The renovation comes one year after the 41-year-old restaurant revamped Level2; Ocean Terrace last closed for a significant period in 2016, when George’s added an elevated bar area.
“We feel it’s important to continue our investment in a restaurant that has meant so much to so many people over the last four plus decades,” operating partner and chef Trey Foshee said. “We want our guests to feel comfortable [and] at home, and feel like they will always be a part of something special and unique to San Diego with that majestic view of the water.”
George Hauer founded George’s at 1250 Prospect Street on August 9, 1984, originally occupying the first and second levels of the building.
The rooftop Ocean Terrace opened in June 1991.
Foshee was brought on as executive chef and partner in 1998.
