The new coffee shop on Pearl Street will have an official opening in late May but is open now for caffeinated drinks and pastries.
Running on espresso and dreams, Ferlini Coffee is preparing for a grand opening in late May at 613 Pearl St.
Ferlini Coffee is serving now, though owner Semih Baytok is still updating the decor and equipment and hopes customers will return when the cafe is fully finished, with a planned record wall, updated countertop, DJ set up and more.
On the menu: signature drinks like the tiramisu latte and Turkish coffee made from Lofty coffee beans, smoothies, pastries from Parisien Gourmandises and more.
Baytok has also applied for a license to serve wine.
Baytok wanted to open a coffee shop in La Jolla after vacationing here, loving the coastal lifestyle and moving permanently from Washington, DC, about five years ago.
“Everyone has a dream to live in a small village, close to the beach,” he said.
This is Baytok’s first venture into food service; his background is in sales for a telecommunications company but he quit after realizing he wanted to work for himself and build more community relationships.
“Now, I know everyone,” he said, leaning into those friendships and connections with local cafe owners for advice about running a coffee shop and combining that knowledge with pieces of Baytok’s experiences and background.
“We are ready to fly,” Baytok said.
Ferlini Coffee is open from 8 am to 8 pm.
