A “natural extension” of his catering company, La Jollan Alec Hurley is set to open a brick and mortar spot along La Jolla Boulevard.
Beach Break, an organic grab & go market, will sell ready-to-eat meals, snacks and juices, along with being a site to order platters and book onsite catering and events.
The market will open in the next two weeks, owner Alec Hurley said.
Taking over the current “Cup of Cheer” location at 5646 La Jolla Blvd., Beach Break is “the next phase” of Hurley’s company Deeply Nourished, a catering and meal delivery company serving San Diego County with two delivery days each week, Monday and Wednesday, he said.
Hurley focuses on seasonal, local and organic produce and uses 100 percent compostable packaging and a menu that rotates throughout the year.
Beach Break is a “natural extension” of that, he said, evolving “out of the necessity for us to grow into our own physical kitchen space, rather than operating out of a shared space like we’ve been doing for the past couple of years.”
With a few tables and chairs for outdoor seating, Beach Break can also serve as a rental space for intimate dinners and other small gatherings, Hurley said.
Hurley established Deeply Nourished in 2021 after working as a private chef and consulting for local restaurants.
Beach Break will be “a spot where you can come in and grab a … meal, platter or a snack and a juice and just be on your way,” he said, the “locals’ go-to for grab & go organic food.”
