The seawall at the Children’s Pool in La Jolla sustained damage to portions of its railing Dec 31 due to the enormous swells that awed visitors and residents but battered the San Diego coast Dec 28 through 31.
City of San Diego Parks & Recreation Department staff examined the Children’s Pool seawall Jan 2 to determine the extent of the damage, city spokesperson Benny Cartwright said.
“We will attempt to expedite repairs as quickly as possible,” he said, adding a cost estimate and completion date is unknown at this time.
The seawall, dedicated in 1931 and open to pedestrians during daylight hours when waves will not crest the top, will remain closed until repairs are made.
