Joan Jacobs, who, with her husband Irwin, became a fixture of philanthropy in La Jolla and San Diego, has died at 91.
Jacobs died of heart failure more than four years after being diagnosed with cardiac amyloidosis, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Joan and Irwin Jacobs, who cofounded Qualcomm, were fierce financial supporters of numerous organizations regionally; the Jacobs name appears in prominent spaces all over UC San Diego including the Jacobs School of Engineering and Jacobs Medical Center, La Jolla Playhouse, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, San Diego Symphony, the Salk Institute for Biological Studies and more.
Joan moved to La Jolla in 1966 with Irwin when he became a founding faculty member of UCSD.
