Walter Munk Day: Celebrate Our Oceans

The Walter Munk Foundation for the Oceans will host the “Walter Munk Day: Celebrate Our Oceans” event on October 14th at Kellogg Park in La Jolla Shores.

The event will feature an opening Kumeyaay smudge ceremony and Bird Singers, a tribal keynote address, 48 exhibitors with interactive, ocean-related activities, food trucks, and face painting.

The day will also include tours of “The Map,” a lithomosaic depicting the underwater La Jolla Canyon and its marine species, plus the unveiling of a large, 4,000-pound bronze sculpture by sculptor Carl Glowienke commissioned by the Walter Munk Foundation. The sculpture reveals the topography and bathymetry map from Mount Soledad to one mile off the coast.
