About 650 La Jolla participants added their voices to nationwide protests Oct 18 with signs and chants, receiving loud, positive responses from drivers.
Keeping dispositions as sunny as the skies, about 650 protesters gathered in La Jolla Oct 18 to protest the current presidential administration.
Crowds began to gather about 9:30 am, growing steadily for about two hours.
Waving handmade signs and chanting phrases like “No hate, no fear/Everyone is welcome here,” the participants at all four corners of the intersection at Girard Avenue and Pearl Street joined in with dozens of similar protests across San Diego and more nationwide for an organized “No Kings Day.”
Some brought several signs to share; others wore clothing expressing their opinions.
As hundreds of cars honked in support as they drove through the intersection, the crowds cheered along.
By 10:30 am, protesters crowded into the median on the east side of the intersection and extended for several yards in all directions, some using a megaphone or banging a metal bowl in cheer.
It was the second such “No Kings Day” marked in the same location, though only about 200 protested in La Jolla June 14 for the first set of demonstrations.
The crowd began to thin around 11:20 am, with dozens choosing to mobilize north on Girard Avenue, as a police officer thanked the crowd for peaceful participation.
