The third annual festival drew thousands onto La Jolla Boulevard.
Thousands of community members and more flocked to Bird Rock Oct. 19 for the third annual BirdStock Music Festival, which closed off La Jolla Boulevard from Midway Street to Camino de la Costa for live music, food and much more.
The all-day festival, proceeds from which go to Bird Rock Elementary School, “went really well,” co-Chair Merisa Titlow said.
Titlow and others received much feedback from the business, attendees and vendors involved that “they had a blast.”
“It felt just so wonderful to see our community in action,” co-Chair Arianna Opsvig.
BirdStock featured multiple stages including a kids-only stage, an artisan market and many family-friendly activities that proved to be popular.
At one of the boulevard roundabouts, a DJ “acquired a crowd of kids dancing in the streets as the sun was setting over the ocean,” Tetlow said. “It was just really magical.”
At the main stage, baton twirlers and Girl Scout dancers had people of all ages “cheering them on and being so supportive,” Opsvig added.
BirdStock’s primary goal “is to bring the community together for a fun day where everyone can just go out, enjoy themselves, support our local merchants, enjoy our local musicians and support Bird Rock Elementary,” Opsvig said.
And as one merchant hosted a skateboard ramp, another a miniature golf course and others held imaginative activities, “the amount of creativity that is in this community is just really thrilling,” she said.
“It wasn’t just a regular street festival [with] vendors,” Tetlow said, adding there were “a lot of really neat things happening [on] every corner,” with crowds at all hours of the day.
Though final proceeds are not yet available, the co-chairs both highlighted the generosity of the festival’s sponsors and donors.
“It’s not only a community event, but it is put on by the community,” Opsvig said.
