The climate change-oriented film festival will host three of its dozens of events in La Jolla: a dinner and screening; a free screening; and a book signing.
Coming ashore for the 6th year, the Blue Water Film Festival will be held at various San Diego locations from Thursday, March 20 through Sunday, March 23.
Founded in 2020 to raise awareness of climate change and promote action, the Blue Water Film Festival features dozens of movie screenings and other special events.
There will be three events in La Jolla: an “Ocean by the Sea Shabbat Dinner” with screenings at 5 pm Friday, March 21, at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, 4126 Executive Drive; a free community screening of “Unearth” at 6 pm Friday, March 21, at La Jolla High School, 750 Nautilus St.; and a book signing event with photographer Aaron Chang at 4 pm Saturday, March 22, at Mangelsen Images of Nature Gallery, 7916 Girard Ave.
Chang will sign his book “San Diego: Through the Lens of Aaron Chang,” a collection of Chang’s photos “authentic to the core of San Diegans,” he said.
Chang, a North County resident who owns a gallery in Solana Beach and spent 25 years as a senior photographer for Surfing Magazine, said he’s been shooting his “whole life.”
Chang published “San Diego: Through the Lens of Aaron Chang,” now also in its 6th edition, to coincide with the art in his gallery.
“What the book does well is capture the unique beauty of the niches and subcommunities of San Diego and how it’s focused around the ocean,” he said.
Participating in the Blue Water Film Festival for the first time is an “exciting way to reconnect with” people similarly devoted to the ocean, Chang said, adding he hopes his photography conveys how fortunate San Diegans are to live near the ocean.
