Hundreds shivered into the La Jolla waters to kick off 2025.

While some stayed abed after a late New Year’s Eve, hundreds woke early Jan 1 to greet the new year by rushing into the 57-degree waves at La Jolla Shores. 

Called the Polar Bear Plunge, it’s an annual tradition celebrated globally. 

The La Jolla Cove Swim Club marked the occasion with a New Year’s Polar Bear Potluck at Kellogg Park, with swimmers plunging amid the social, joyous event. 

Encouraged to wear anything, swimmers showed up in everything from proper ocean gear to a suit.
