From one end of La Jolla to the other, Independence Day celebrations included annual traditions of neighborhood parade, fireworks and a drone show.
From the southernmost tip of La Jolla to the northern end, Independence Day celebrations took the usual forms, from the decades-long Bird Rock parade to the third annual drone show in La Jolla Shores.
The day began with thousands attending the 46th annual Bird Rock Independence Day parade, themed “Wild Wild West” this year and rolling down Beaumont Avenue from Camino de La Costa to Mira Monte.
The parade had fewer entrants this year than previously, though the crowd numbers were maintained and attendees delighted in the repeat appearance of “Captain America” and local businesses like Bird Rock Twirl and LJ Crafted Wines.
Other floats with pioneer wagon decor and more drew cheers and applause as well.
The parade culminated as it always does behind the La Jolla United Methodist Church for an after-party with live music, food and other entertainment, along with prizes awarded for entrants.
The Barber Tract neighborhood also hosted its own traditional block party and parade.
After sunset, the La Jolla Country Club hosted its typical fireworks show, visible from many points around La Jolla. Just after its conclusion, the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club hosted its third annual drone show.
This year, there were more than double the number of 2024’s drones in a display that awed the hundreds gathered at Kellogg Park and The Shores beach. Featuring patriotic and coastal images, the show lasted about 15 minutes.
