The Spa at La Valencia now open for ‘experiential treatments’ and more

Spa at La Valencia

A long time in the making, the iconic La Jolla hotel now includes spa treatments designed to incorporate a variety of therapies in a luxury setting.

On the cusp of its 100th birthday, La Valencia Hotel is adding another chapter to its lengthy La Jolla history, opening the Spa at La Valencia Hotel, 1135 Coast Blvd.

The new spa is “a little different” from other luxury spas, said La Valencia general manager Troy Longwith,  as there is no steam room or sauna but instead a focus on experiential treatments.

The therapies include facials, massages, body treatments and more, such as the Glo2Facial, a results-driven facial that employs breakthrough Oxfoliation technology with collagen-boosting radio frequency. La Valencia becomes the only location south of Beverly Hills with the Glow2 device.

All the new facials are “very thoughtful [and] targeted,” said La Valencia spa director Lisa Price.

Treatments like the Coastal Escape massage, which incorporates CBD, are meant to mix with the seaside harmony of La Jolla.

The full-body Rose Quartz Radiance treatment, which pays homage to La Valencia’s “Pink Lady” heritage, will also be featured in many of the resort’s bridal packages and pay heritage to our pink lady, Price said.

Price, whose spa programs at Inn at Rancho Santa Fe and Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa earned national acclaim, “wanted to create an experience that was very thought out,” she said, “something that wasn’t like any of the other resort spas.”

When guests arrive, they will be “greeted with six different aroma therapy options … [on] an aroma journey that goes with their services,” Price said. “It’s a special touch that’s a little bit different.”

Price’s prior experience “made me see wellness and spa as something [with] so many different angles, not just the physical or the mental,” she said.

“It’s not just the treatment itself, but it’s about that full experience. That’s what I really gravitate towards. [It’s] not just inside the room for 60 minutes, but what we can create before and after to have a lasting impact.”

The Spa at La Valencia’s therapists “are just incredible,” Price said. “They’re healers as well,” offering Reiki, sound healing and more.

The spa will also carry retail skincare from 111Skin, Valmont, Ultraceuticals and others.

The spa will attend to both locals and visitors.

“We’re working on some different workshops, community events,” Price said.

La Valencia is “The Village’s living room,” Longwith said, with “many stories of people who have memories here for generations. To be able to offer something different with that same level of service is an extension of what we have already been doing for 100 years.”

The spa is also “an amenity to the hotel that our guests have been asking for for a long time,” he said, adding travelers, including the frequent bridal parties that select La Valencia, will benefit as well with specials and upgrades.

It’s all set within a three-story residence dating back to the early 1900s, renovated to retain the building’s historical characteristics.

“The vision is to bring coastal elements into the building,” Longwith said. “It’s very light and airy.”

The design includes white oak floors, a marine-inspired color palette, natural stone accents and more.

La Valencia will also install a living wall, shipped from Amsterdam, in September.

The idea for a spa at La Valencia was conceived in 2016, Longwith said, well before the pandemic and before Longwith came aboard.

“The vision has always been there from ownership,” he said. “It’s been a labor of love and we think that it’s going to be pretty special.”
